The Town of Bloomfield is located to the north of Hartford and West Hartford in a suburban setting and is bordered by Windsor to the north and east, East Granby to the north, and Simsbury to the west. The Town of Bloomfield covers 26.4 sq. miles with a population of approximately 20,000. It was formed on lands from Windsor, Farmington, and Simsbury and was originally named Wintonbury (1736) until it was incorporated as a town in 1835. Today Bloomfield is one of the fastest growing suburbs in the Hartford metropolitan area. Because it borders Hartford,
the state capital, it is very convenient for commuters to have jobs
there. Its principal industries include insurance, aerospace products,
specialized tools, electronics, gold and diamond products and
diversified industries and agriculture.
