The Bloomfield Social Studies Program is designed to foster democratic values and encourage responsible citizenship through the study of history.  The study of history is vital for all citizens in a democracy because it provides the avenue to reach an understanding of our selves and of our society.  Our courses provide opportunities for students to:

  Satisfy their longing for a sense of identity and of their time and place in the human history.

   Understand our common political vision, which is essential to liberty, equality and justice in a multicultural society.

   Develop critical thinking skills – such as the recognition of multiple perspectives and the  ability to detect bias – that will prepare them for responsible decision-making in their personal and professional lives.

To these ends, the program assists students in meeting the specific academic, social and civic expectations of Bloomfield High School’s Mission.
