Students
will engage in both individualized and team activities in a series of six week,
mini-units to further develop fine motor skills and control. Where
possible, lifetime sports, which are usually more recreational than competitive
in nature, will be included. The program is designed to teach basic skills,
introduce more advanced skills and strategies, and create an enjoyable
environment where enthusiasm for physical activity enhances the individual’s
general health for a lifetime.
Health Education will discuss the following topics:
Sexually Transmitted Diseases, including HIV/AIDS, Substance Abuse (alcohol,
tobacco and other drugs). Additional topics include, but are not limited
to nutrition, self-esteem, eating disorders, domestic violence, abusive
relationships, and birth control.
*At the parent’s request, a student may be excluded
from the human sexuality portion of the health unit. This section
includes discussions about AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases, contraceptives,
and teen pregnancy.
