This course engages students in the development of floral business and the commercial aspect of Horticultural Sciences.Students will become knowledgeable about matters of the Floral Industry through units of anatomy, purchasing and handling fresh flowers and foliage, green and blooming plants, retail flower shop orientation, visual merchandising for the retail florist, marketing and promoting floral products, design mechanics, sales, and plant identification.Students manage the daily operations of a floral business and are exposed to the dynamics and general economics of a floriculture business on a small scale.Students are presented with factors that influence and affect competition within the industry as well as the principles, strategies and costs associated with the marketing and sales of their products.Strategies in business practices, floral design, pest control, plant propagation, shop maintenance and management and horticulture are also integrated into the course.
